Sopore police have successfully cracked two burglary cases, arresting four accused and recovering stolen property, officials said on Saturday.
In the first case, a complaint was lodged on October 1, 2025, by Mohammad Lateef Peer of Tujjer Shareef, reporting the theft of a 10 KV transformer and a bicycle from his residence. Following an investigation, Mudasir Ahmad Ganie of Tujjer Shareef was arrested. He confessed to the theft and revealed that he had sold the stolen items to two auto drivers for Rs 1,300.
Acting on his disclosure, police apprehended auto drivers Danish Ahmad Dar and Tariq Ahmad Shah, both from Maharaj Pora, Sopore, who had purchased the transformer and bicycle, respectively. The stolen property was successfully recovered. Sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 317(2), have been invoked against the accused, who remain in remand as further recoveries are pursued.
In a second case, a complaint was filed on October 3, 2025, by Altaf Hussain Shalla of Shalimar Colony B, reporting the theft of pipes and other iron items from his house. Police swiftly apprehended Sameer Ahmad Shah, also known as Chota Antta, a habitual offender from Neharpora Sopore, caught red-handed with the stolen property.
Police confirmed that investigations in both cases are ongoing to identify additional accomplices or stolen assets.
