SEOUL — Song Jin-ho, who ran as an independent candidate with number 8 in the 21st presidential election, has been arrested on charges of fraud, police announced on the 21st.
The Seoul Central District Court issued an arrest warrant for Song, citing concerns that he might flee or destroy evidence.
Song is accused of defrauding investors of hundreds of millions of won since 2020 by promising to build a project called ‘Miracle City’ in Cambodia. His presidential campaign also faced controversy when reports surfaced revealing he had 17 prior criminal records.
During the ongoing investigation, the Financial Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency seized evidence indicating misappropriation of investment funds.
