In a series of anti-drug operations across Chennai, six individuals—including two software professionals and two teenagers—were arrested for smuggling and peddling methamphetamine and narcotic tablets.
The Nungambakkam police arrested Vinosh Anand (32), a dance instructor, and Shakti Vasudevan (34) and B Nitishkumar (26), both employed in software firms. The trio was apprehended from the Valluvar Kottam tank area, where police seized 4.5 grams of methamphetamine.
During interrogation, the accused revealed they had purchased the drug from a man named Amith, whom they reportedly met through a gay dating app. Police have launched a manhunt to trace Amith, while the three were remanded to Puzhal prison.
In a separate incident on Sivananda Salai, police arrested M Altaf (27) and seized 10 grams of methamphetamine, six syringes, and a digital weighing scale from his possession.
Meanwhile, the Kodambakkam police arrested S Dhanushkumar (19) and Ajay Fernandez (19) from Trustpuram Ground, recovering 85 narcotic tablets. All suspects have been booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that investigations are ongoing to uncover deeper links in the city’s growing synthetic drug trade.
