In a major drug bust on Wednesday, Aluva police arrested six people, including two women, and seized 4kg of cannabis and 855g of hashish oil as part of Operation Clean, an extensive anti-drug drive in Ernakulam Rural district.
The operation began on Tuesday night when Mamata Digil, 28, a native of Odisha, was arrested at Pump Junction, Aluva, with 4kg of cannabis. Following this, a raid at Aluva railway station led to the capture of five other suspects, including Shiva Gowda, 29, Kulder Rana, 55, his wife Moina Rana, 35, and their associates Santosh Kumar, 32, and Ram Babu Soona, 32, with a bag containing 1kg of hashish oil.
The suspects were trafficking drugs from Odisha to Kerala, where they sold cannabis for Rs25,000 per kilogram. The police revealed that the group, led by Shiva Gowda, had been using trains to transport the drugs while posing as a family to avoid suspicion.
The hashish oil recovered is valued at Rs25 lakh per kilogram, marking a significant success in the fight against drug trafficking. The operation was carried out by the Aluva police and the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force team.
