Police arrested six individuals, including a woman, on Tuesday in connection with the kidnapping and murder of 35-year-old grain trader Niraj Sah in Chakiya, East Champaran.
Niraj, a resident of Parsauni village under Kalyanpur police station, ran a wholesale grain shop in the Chakiya market. According to police, his close associate Shubham Kumar conspired with others to kidnap him.
On Sunday, Shubham lured Niraj from his village home by promising to buy foodgrains at a cheaper price in Dewariya and took him on his bike. Later that evening, Shubham contacted Niraj’s family demanding a ransom of ₹2 lakh. Following the ransom call, Niraj’s father, Asharfi Sah, filed an FIR at Chakiya police station, reporting that he had seen his son leave with Shubham.
Police quickly launched an investigation, arresting Shubham near Chakiya based on phone tracking. During interrogation, Shubham confessed that Niraj was killed just an hour after the FIR was filed on Monday. Niraj’s body was recovered from a bushy area near Paru police station.
Subsequent raids led to the arrest of Shubham’s accomplices Mukesh Sah, Rameshwar Sah, Shobha Devi, and two others, as police continue their probe into the case.
