In Gujarat’s Bharuch district, six individuals were arrested for allegedly stealing a pregnant cow, slaughtering it, and consuming its meat, officials confirmed on Monday.
The incident occurred on Diwali (October 31) when Kamlesh Ahir, the owner of the cow, had tied the animal to a tree near his home in Eksaal village due to its inability to walk. However, when Kamlesh returned later that evening, he discovered that his cow was missing and promptly lodged a complaint with the local police.
In his complaint, Kamlesh explained that he and his father had searched for the missing cow and received a tip that people from a neighboring village had taken the animal. After visiting the village, Kamlesh found animal remains and handed them over to the police for investigation.
Upon investigation, Kamlesh identified the suspects as Sarfaraz Mansuri, Wasim Mansuri, Mubarak Mansuri, Soheb Mansuri, and Rizwan Mansuri, all from the neighboring village. Additionally, Ajay Rathod was accused of assisting in transporting the stolen cow.
Following the complaint, local police arrested all six suspects. The Deputy Superintendent of Police for Bharuch confirmed that the suspects had a history of theft, and the incident’s primary motive was to slaughter and consume the cow’s meat.
The accused have been charged under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanghita, Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, and the Gujarat Animal Preservation Act.
Further investigation into the matter is ongoing.
