The Deepka Police have arrested Suman Singh and her brother Jai Singh for allegedly cheating two individuals by promising them government clerk jobs in the court. The duo is accused of deceiving the victims, Sanjay Das and his friend, of a total of Rs4.5 lakh under the pretext of securing them clerk positions.
The scam came to light after Sanjay Das filed a complaint on December 7. According to the victim, he had met Suman Singh in Raipur, where she claimed that there was a vacant clerk position in the court. Suman convinced him that, for a price, she could help him land the job. Posing as a lawyer, she used her supposed connections with court officials and politicians to further persuade the victims that she had the power to secure them the positions.
Once Sanjay Das and his friend paid the Rs4.5 lakh, they received no further communication from Suman or her brother. When they demanded a refund, the accused siblings refused to return the money, prompting the victims to report the scam to the police.
Following the complaint, the Deepka Police launched an investigation, tracking down the accused to Janjgir-Champa and Bilaspur, where they were arrested. Both Suman and Jai Singh are residents of Janjgir. Authorities have indicated that the duo may have been involved in similar scams targeting other job seekers, and they are working to gather more information about their potential victims.
Suman and Jai Singh were presented before the court and remanded in judicial custody. The police are continuing their investigation and have urged anyone else who may have fallen victim to the scam to come forward.
