In a major narcotics crackdown, Vashi police seized hydroponic weed worth Rs 13 crore and arrested three alleged drug peddlers. An FIR has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Senior Inspector Shashikant Chandekar stated that on Wednesday night, beat marshal constables Rahul Bhoi and Ashok Shinde received a tip-off during patrol duty. The information suggested that drug suppliers would arrive near Vashi railway station in a four-wheeler around 9 am the next day to sell the contraband.
Acting on the intelligence, police laid a trap and intercepted the suspects. The arrested accused were identified as Shyam Shivkumar Vanwani (45) from Ulhasnagar, Sandeep Dilip Patil (35), and Aniket Sunil Telangi (27), both residents of Pune.
Police seized the hydroponic weed, along with the car used for transportation, mobile phones, and Rs 28,000 in cash from their possession. The trio has been remanded to four days of police custody, and further investigation is underway to trace the supply network.
