In a developing financial fraud case, Dima Hasao police on Sunday arrested Shivam Pandey, a resident of Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, for allegedly cheating locals in Haflong by posing as an official of MIGLOX Petroleum Pvt Ltd.
Pandey is accused of duping people by claiming to offer shares in a non-existent Initial Public Offering (IPO) and soliciting funds under the guise of a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) scheme. The fraud came to light when a local hotelier filed a police complaint, stating that Pandey had failed to pay his hotel bills and took Rs25,000 with false promises of offering IPO shares.
Following the complaint, police arrested Pandey and registered a case under BNS Sections 318(4), 338, and 336(3) at Haflong Police Station (Case No. 46/2025).
According to Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Faruque Ahmed, Pandey had collected money from multiple individuals in the district using forged CSR and IPO narratives. Authorities confirmed that MIGLOX Petroleum has not initiated any such IPO, confirming the scam.
Pandey is currently undergoing treatment at Haflong Civil Hospital due to a medical condition. Police said the investigation is at a preliminary stage and further details will be disclosed as the case progresses.
