Kanpur: Police in Kanpur have arrested Shivam Mishra, son of tobacco industrialist KK Mishra, in connection with the high-profile Lamborghini crash on VIP Road that left six people injured and several vehicles damaged.

The arrest was made four days after the accident. According to DCP Central Kanpur Atul Kumar Srivastava, five police teams were deployed after receiving specific intelligence about Shivam’s presence in the city. He was taken for a medical examination before being produced in court. Authorities informed the court that he had allegedly evaded police and failed to cooperate with the investigation.

The accident occurred around 3 pm when a Lamborghini Revuelto, reportedly speeding, rammed into pedestrians and vehicles before mounting a divider and halting. The luxury supercar, valued at over Rs10 crore, has been seized for forensic examination.

The FIR was initially registered against an unknown driver based on a complaint by Mohd Taufeeq (18), an e-rickshaw driver injured in the crash. Later, after investigation, the FIR was amended to name Shivam Mishra as the accused.

The case took a dramatic turn when a man named Mohan claimed he was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash, alleging that Shivam suffered a seizure moments before the accident. Mohan stated that he panicked, lost control, and later shifted Shivam to the driver’s seat. He attempted to surrender before a court, but police did not name him as an accused, and the court rejected his plea pending a detailed police report.

Police have dismissed Mohan’s claims, stating that CCTV footage, eyewitness accounts, and videos from the scene clearly show Shivam Mishra in the driver’s seat immediately after the crash. Senior officials reiterated that technical evidence confirms he was behind the wheel.

Meanwhile, the defence has claimed that the complainant is no longer interested in pursuing the case and that a mutual settlement, including compensation for medical expenses, was reached. However, police sources confirmed that an inquiry has been initiated into the alleged settlement, and the SHO concerned has been removed from charge.

Shivam’s family has stated that he suffers from epilepsy and denied allegations of rash driving or intoxication. Police have rejected these claims, maintaining that the evidence establishes Shivam Mishra as the driver at the time of the incident.
