Shimla police arrested two individuals in separate drug-related cases in Shimla district, recovering heroin and opium, officials said on Monday.
In the first case, Lovesh, a resident of Chowki village in Kufri, Shimla district, was caught with 9.6 grams of chitta (heroin) near Rahighat on National Highway No. 5. Police spotted him during a routine patrol around 2:35 am on Sunday. Attempting to flee, Lovesh threw a packet on the roadside, which was recovered and found to contain heroin. A case under Section 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 has been registered, and investigation is ongoing.
In a separate case in Rohru, a private bus conductor from Theog was arrested with 128 grams of opium following a police tip-off. DSP Pranav Chauhan confirmed the arrest and said a case under the NDPS Act has been filed. Authorities are probing to identify the backward and forward links of the accused to trace the wider network involved in drug peddling.
These arrests underscore Shimla police’s vigilance in curbing drug trafficking in the region.
