Sheriff Heath Taylor Announces Drug Bust in Russell County

Brothers arrested after joint narcotics investigation

RUSSELL COUNTY, Ala. — Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor announced Monday that a major narcotics investigation resulted in multiple arrests and the seizure of drugs, cash, weapons, and a vehicle.

Taylor made the announcement during a press conference held at 11 a.m. ET at the Russell County Sheriff’s Office investigations building. The operation was a joint effort between authorities in Russell County and Muscogee County.

According to investigators, the Russell County SWAT Team executed a search warrant Friday at a residence located at 807 Pine Hill Court in Phenix City. During the search, deputies arrested two brothers identified as Maurice Lucas Robinson, 34, and Jacob Alexander Robinson, 33.

Investigators seized approximately 26 pounds of marijuana, $2,100 in cash, a stolen firearm registered in Columbus, and a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu. Officials also reported recovering additional drug-related evidence in Columbus as part of the coordinated investigation.

Sheriff Taylor warned that large-scale marijuana trafficking often involves broader criminal activity.

“Just marijuana isn’t just marijuana,” Taylor said. “When you see weapons involved and large quantities like this, it’s usually tied to more than one type of illegal activity.”

Taylor also noted that deputies discovered liquid THC, which can be used to coat gummies — a method he said poses a particular risk to children.

Muscogee County Sheriff Greg Countryman echoed the warning, saying law enforcement remains focused on removing drug traffickers from local communities.

“We know who you are,” Countryman said. “It’s just a matter of time before we kick your door in and make our communities and neighborhoods safer.”

Both brothers face charges including trafficking in marijuana, unlawful possession of a controlled substance (THC), and receiving stolen property. Officials said additional trafficking charges are pending in Georgia as the investigation continues.

The suspects remain in the Russell County Jail without bond.
