In a dramatic late-night encounter, Etawah police apprehended a notorious criminal who had been evading arrest for 15 years. The accused, Sheikh Mohammad (52), a resident of Foota Talab in Auraiya district, was wanted in several serious cases including murder and robbery in Kanpur Dehat and carried a reward of Rs 10,000.
Acting on a tip-off, the Civil Line police, Special Operations Group (SOG), and surveillance teams converged near the Lion Safari parking gate. When approached, Sheikh Mohammad attempted to flee and opened fire on police personnel. In retaliatory action, he was shot in the leg and taken into custody.
Authorities recovered a .315 bore illegal pistol, six live cartridges, one used cartridge, and a stolen motorcycle from his possession. During interrogation, Sheikh Mohammad confessed that the motorcycle had been stolen from the Jaswantnagar police station area.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police Brijesh Kumar Srivastava, the accused, along with his associates, had been involved in a 2010 murder and robbery case in Shivli town, Kanpur Dehat, and had been absconding since.
