In a major breakthrough, Nilambazar Police have dismantled a large-scale mobile phone theft racket operating in Sribhumi, believed to be linked to criminal networks in West Bengal. Six individuals were arrested during a late-night operation near the railway gate area, where authorities seized a trove of stolen mobile phones and accessories.
The operation followed actionable intelligence that led police to Suprakandi, where they apprehended a suspect, Sheikh Aslam, with seven stolen smartphones in his possession. His confession led to a more extensive raid at a rented house in the railway gate locality, unearthing 39 high-end Android phones and several bags filled with phone components.
According to law enforcement sources, the arrested individuals—Sheikh Aslam, Nur Uddin, Tuta Sheikh, Hakim Sheikh, Amirul Islam, and Asma Sheikh—had been operating the racket for an extended period after infiltrating the area from West Bengal.
The value of the seized mobile phones and accessories is estimated to run into several lakhs of rupees. Police are now investigating further to trace the network’s full scale and identify any possible connections to a larger organized theft syndicate.
Authorities have urged residents to remain alert and report suspicious mobile sales or repair activities, as the investigation continues.
