In a major crackdown on vehicle theft, Vijayawada Police arrested three individuals for allegedly stealing electric bikes worth over Rs10 lakh. The accused were caught red-handed while attempting to sell the stolen vehicles on Monday morning.

The suspects were identified as Sheik Basha (35), Jakkamsetti Durga Prasad (26), and Syed Yousuf (28). Among them, Basha—believed to be the mastermind—once worked as a mechanic and used his technical knowledge to commit the crimes.

According to police officials, Basha began targeting electric bikes across various localities in Vijayawada with help from his accomplices. Over time, they managed to steal at least 22 electric bikes, all of which have been recovered by the authorities.

The arrests were made by Machavaram police inspector Prakash and his team, who used surveillance footage and technical evidence to trace Basha. He was apprehended while negotiating the sale of the stolen vehicles.

The city police praised the swift action of Inspector Prakash and his team, which included Sub-Inspector AV Srinivas and constables Ramesh, M Subhash Kumar, and A Tarun Kumar Varma.

All three accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, and further investigation is underway to determine whether they were involved in additional thefts or had other accomplices.
