CUMBERLAND COUNTY, NJ / VILLANOVA, PA — A 26-year-old man accused of murdering his grandfather was arrested after being found hiding in a stolen SUV inside a parking garage at Villanova University, authorities said.

Shawn Moir, 26, was wanted by Vineland Police after allegedly stabbing his 59-year-old grandfather, Albert Moir, with a kitchen knife inside their Diamond Drive home late Tuesday night, August 26. The elder Moir later died from his injuries.

Authorities say after the fatal attack, Shawn fled the scene in his grandfather’s 2009 black Chevrolet Tahoe.

The next day, U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force used license plate reader data to locate the vehicle inside the I-1 parking garage on Ithan Avenue at Villanova University. He was found sitting inside the SUV and taken into custody without incident.

“He told us he had driven around, got gas, found a parking garage, and decided to settle down there,” said Robert Clark, a U.S. Marshals agent.

Officials estimate Moir had been in the vehicle for over 10 hours.

Villanova University released a statement confirming the arrest, emphasizing there was no threat to campus safety, and that the individual was not affiliated with the university.

Moir now faces charges of murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and additional offenses.

The quiet campus was already tense from recent unrelated swatting incidents, making the arrest even more unsettling for new students.

“It’s surreal,” said freshman Jack Thompson. “Villanova’s not really known for this kind of stuff. It’s definitely on my mind.”
