Shawn Boyd, 30, of Rock Island, has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in connection with the 2021 shooting death of 26-year-old Dayona Lee. Boyd was sentenced to 20 years in prison as part of his plea agreement.

Boyd’s guilty plea came after a jury trial commenced on Monday. The fatal shooting occurred on December 22, 2021, when Rock Island Police responded to a home on 4th Avenue where they found Lee’s body with an apparent gunshot wound.

Following the investigation, Boyd, then 27, was identified as a suspect and later turned himself in to authorities. Initially charged with first-degree murder, Boyd also faced additional charges related to a weapons offense and parole violation from two outstanding warrants in Iowa.

Upon completion of his prison sentence, Boyd will be required to serve one year of mandatory supervised release.
