Police have arrested 26-year-old Shavar Craft in connection with the June 16 shooting death of 25-year-old Daquan Mims in Saginaw’s Old Town district.
The arrest, which occurred around 12:45 p.m. Friday at an apartment complex in the 2800 block of Williamson Street in Bridgeport Township, comes six months after the deadly shooting. Authorities received a tip last week indicating that Craft, a suspect in Mims’ murder, was at the location.
While the person of interest was not identified during the investigation, Saginaw Police confirmed in September that Craft was a suspect. He was booked into the Saginaw County Jail on Friday, and an arraignment is expected this week. However, as of now, no formal charges have been announced in the case.
Det. Sgt. Oscar Lopez commended the public for their assistance in the investigation, saying, “It’s always a good thing when people come forward to help us get dangerous people off the street.”
The shooting occurred after bars closed in the Old Town district on the morning of June 16, when a large crowd had gathered outdoors. Gunfire erupted, leading to Mims’ death. Investigators used surveillance video from the scene to develop a description of the suspect.
Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for any information that leads to an arrest in the case.
