Capital murder charge after fatal incident at family party

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) — A woman has been charged with capital murder after authorities say she intentionally ran over and killed the father of her children during a chaotic Easter Sunday gathering in Birmingham.

Shatice Renae Jackson, 30, is accused of killing Mickese James Bostic, 27, during an altercation at a home in the 700 block of Lisa Lane. Birmingham Police were initially called around 9:50 p.m. on reports of gunfire. While en route, they received an update that a woman was attempting to run over a man.

When officers arrived, they found Bostic pinned between a vehicle and the home. He was pronounced dead at 10:21 p.m. by Birmingham Fire and Rescue. Police say the incident occurred during an Easter celebration that also served as a birthday party for one of Bostic’s children.

Investigators confirmed that Jackson and Bostic had argued earlier in the evening, but no arrests were made at that time. Later, Jackson allegedly returned, escalated the conflict, and may have fired a gun before using her vehicle to fatally strike Bostic. Authorities are still determining whether the firearm was discharged into the air or toward a person.

The couple shared children, and police believe at least one child under the age of 14 was present during the incident, leading to a capital murder (child present) charge. The scene quickly turned chaotic, prompting a response from four separate police precincts.

Bostic was a juvenile detention officer with over eight years of service in Jefferson County.

Jackson is currently held at Jefferson County Jail without bond, after being booked into the Birmingham City Jail on a 48-hour felony extension. A capital murder warrant was issued on Monday.
