Shashi Devi and Lover Arrested for Poisoning Husband in Firozabad

Couple confesses to murdering husband after illicit affair exposed

by Ananya Mehta

A 28-year-old woman, Shashi Devi, and her lover, Yaduvendra Kumar (29), were arrested on Friday in Firozabad’s Ulau village for allegedly poisoning her husband, Sunil, to death after he objected to their illicit relationship.

According to police, Shashi ordered poison via an e-commerce platform and first mixed it into milk on May 13, disguising it as a medicine for alcohol de-addiction. Sunil, who was an alcoholic and worked at a ceramic factory, fell ill and was hospitalized but discharged as stable after preliminary treatment.

Undeterred, the accused gave Sunil curd laced with poison the next day, May 14, which proved fatal.

The couple had been married for 11 years and had two children aged 9 and 7. Police learned about the illicit affair during the investigation; the duo confessed to having been in a relationship for over a year and conspired to kill Sunil after he confronted them.

The case came to light when Sunil’s mother filed a complaint at Tundla police station on Thursday, prompted by a niece who revealed that Shashi had asked her to carry a suspicious packet from the home of Yaduvendra, who had returned to Firozabad after separating from his wife.

Authorities registered the case under criminal conspiracy (BNS 61(2)) and murder (BNS 103(1)).

Police also revealed that Shashi attempted to cover up the crime by persuading the family to cremate Sunil’s body without a medico-legal process.
