Former Zeigler School Bookkeeper Sharon Vaughn Arrested for Theft, Misconduct

ZEIGLER, Ill. — A former bookkeeper for the Zeigler-Royalton Community Unit School District 188 has been arrested and charged with felony theft and official misconduct, according to a statement from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

Sharon Vaughn, 64, of Zeigler, was taken into custody on April 9 following an investigation sparked by concerns from the school district.

Sheriff Kyle Bacon stated that his office was first contacted by school officials in mid-March, after they discovered a potential financial discrepancy involving an employee. Vaughn, who had been employed in a financial capacity, became the subject of the investigation.

Following a review of financial records and other evidence, authorities determined there was enough to charge Vaughn with theft and official misconduct, both felony-level offenses.

Vaughn was arrested without incident and booked at the Franklin County Jail. Further details regarding the amount of money involved or how long the alleged misconduct occurred have not yet been released.

The case remains under investigation, and additional charges may be possible.
