HOPKINTON, R.I. — Police in Rhode Island have arrested Shannon Godbout, 41, in connection with a deadly crash that killed a pedestrian on Spring Street.
Hopkinton officers responded to the one-car crash at about 7:20 a.m. on Saturday. Investigators said Godbout was driving eastbound when she left her lane, striking two telephone poles before hitting a pedestrian walking his dogs on the shoulder.
The victim was identified as 70-year-old Roderick Macleod, who later died from his injuries at Rhode Island Hospital.
Godbout was arrested at the scene and transported to a hospital for a medical evaluation. During a search, officers discovered narcotics and drug distribution materials in her possession.

Driving so as to endanger resulting in death
Possession of narcotics with intent to distribute
Hopkinton Police Chief Mark Carrier noted that Godbout has been arrested at least 100 times, including eight arrests by Hopkinton officers. Her record also includes 82 court warrants and 40 traffic citations.
Police said additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues in coordination with the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office.
