COFFEE COUNTY, Ga. — A routine air conditioning service call led to felony charges after Shane Lawson Tanner Jr. was arrested for allegedly stealing firearms and cash from a local residence.
The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation on June 30, 2025, after a homeowner reported the disappearance of several firearms and about $60 in rolled quarters. Investigators quickly identified Tanner Jr., who had recently performed AC maintenance at the home and had access to the premises.
Following the investigation, deputies arrested Tanner Jr. and charged him with two counts of Theft by Taking, under O.C.G.A. 16-8-2, a felony offense in the state of Georgia.
Authorities were able to recover the stolen firearms from a third party located in neighboring Atkinson County.
Tanner Jr. is currently being held at the Coffee County Pre-Trial Detention Center.
The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office urges residents to exercise caution when allowing service professionals into their homes and to promptly report any suspicious behavior.
