In a shocking wildlife crime in Nahan, Sirmaur district, authorities have arrested two men for brutally attacking a leopard that entered a goat farm.
Forest and police officials reported that the leopard strayed into the goat shed of Shakti, alias Bunty, in Satiwala village on February 23. The animal was rescued and moved to Shimla for treatment, but it later died. Post-mortem results revealed the front left paw and four claws had been severed, suggesting a deliberate attack.
Investigations uncovered that the accused, Shakti and Neeraj, allegedly planned to harm the leopard and entered the shed armed with a sickle and an axe. Authorities also found two illegally kept parrots at the accused’s residence, highlighting further wildlife violations. A case was registered under Sections 9, 39, and 51 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
Meanwhile, in Renuka Ji, another case of animal cruelty is under investigation. Hira, a resident of Aaliya village, reported that his sister-in-law, Nisha Devi, deliberately fed urea fertilizer to his goats, causing their deaths. Police have registered a case under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Both cases underscore growing concerns over wildlife protection and livestock safety in Sirmaur district.
