Margherita, Assam: On a day when Assam was mourning the loss of legendary musician Zubeen Garg, the Margherita police pressed ahead with their fight against drug trafficking, arresting a youth with banned narcotic substances during a targeted raid.
The operation was conducted on Tuesday, September 23, near the newly constructed bridge in Margherita, where the police apprehended Shahabuddin Sheikh, a resident of Thana Road.
The raid was prompted by several complaints from residents about increasing illegal drug activity in the area. Responding swiftly, law enforcement teams led by Margherita Co-District Police Officer Dinesh Pratap Singh Rathod and Tinsukia District Additional Superintendent of Police Fayaz Ahmed coordinated the operation.
Upon searching the suspect, police discovered a quantity of banned substances, confirming suspicions of drug trafficking. Authorities stated that further investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the drugs and potential links to a larger distribution network.
Police officials have pledged to intensify anti-drug campaigns across the region in response to growing community concerns. The arrest marks another step in Assam’s ongoing crackdown on the drug menace.
