SHADY DALE, Ga. — A Jasper County man is in custody after being charged with multiple serious offenses, including methamphetamine distribution and theft, according to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said 50-year-old Michael James Lackey, of Shady Dale, faces three charges:
Possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute
Possession of methamphetamine
Felony theft
The two drug charges are separate counts. Possession with intent to distribute is considered the more serious offense, indicating authorities believe Lackey was selling or planning to sell methamphetamine, rather than using it personally.
Felony theft in Georgia typically involves property valued above a certain threshold, though the specific items in this case have not been disclosed.
The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office has not released details about the circumstances leading to the arrest, the date it occurred, or the property involved in the theft charge. No court date has been announced.
If convicted, Lackey could face significant prison time. Methamphetamine distribution is among the most serious drug offenses under Georgia law.
