Seven individuals have been arrested in connection with the murder of a 59-year-old man, Lalfakmawia, in Bungthuam village, near the Mizoram-Tripura-Bangladesh border, according to Mamit District SP Pukhraj Kamal on Monday. Among the arrested is Lalfakmawia’s wife, Sondorung Reang (27).

The Kanhmun police station initiated an investigation after receiving information on February 13 about a body being recovered near a river between Bungthuam and Luimawi village. The investigation led to a criminal case being filed under Section 103 (1), 311 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 at the Kanhmun PS.

Reang had reported her husband missing to the Young Mizo Association on February 13, stating that he left home the previous night on his bike with around Rs1.70 lakh. When Lalfakmawia’s body was found, investigators discovered four head injuries, likely caused by a blunt weapon, and an Assamese towel wrapped around his neck. His motorcycle was found approximately 7 km away on Thinghlun road.

The investigation revealed that Reang, in collaboration with a close friend of her husband, had conspired to murder Lalfakmawia with the help of others. The authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
