BOISE, Idaho — A Treasure Valley contractor, Seth Wooddell, faces grand theft charges after allegedly taking thousands of dollars from homeowners and failing to complete their projects, leaving several families without their money or finished work.
Wooddell, owner of Idaho Decks & Exteriors, was booked into the Ada County Jail on Tuesday with bail set at $300,000. He faces three counts of grand theft, according to court documents.
Alleged victims told 7Investigates that Wooddell not only took their money but also their trust. Caroline Rolofson said she hired Wooddell in September after an initial consultation and paid a deposit of $18,132 for deck renovations. She claims he never purchased materials or completed the work.
The complaint alleges Wooddell took over $1,000 from the Rolofsons and two other victims. Sam Rolofson noted at least 30 other alleged victims, with claims ranging from partial work to projects left entirely unfinished.
Court records reveal Wooddell has multiple legal issues, including a January 2024 lawsuit for nearly $30,000 and other pending small claims cases in Idaho. Previous records in Washington state show unpaid liens and license violations.
Wooddell’s alleged victims have filed complaints with the Idaho Contractor’s Board, Attorney General’s Office, and police, though many fear they won’t recover their money. Victims recommend thorough background checks and relying on personal referrals when hiring contractors.
Wooddell was arraigned Wednesday in Ada County, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for December 29. Each grand theft charge carries up to 14 years in prison, $5,000 in fines, and restitution. Boise police continue investigating, and more charges may follow.
