New Haven officials are set to share additional details about the August double homicide on Dickerman Street, where two men were fatally shot in broad daylight.

Mayor Justin Elicker and Police Chief Karl Jacobson will speak at a press conference at police headquarters to provide an update on the arrest made in the case, the New Haven Police Department announced. The families of the two victims, 26-year-old Daiquan Hyman of East Haven and 32-year-old Ernest Williams of New Haven, are expected to attend.

The shooting occurred at approximately 2:12 p.m. on August 25 in the 70 block of Dickerman Street. Officers responding to reports of gunfire found both men with multiple gunshot wounds. Hyman was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Yale-New Haven Hospital, while Williams succumbed to his injuries later that evening.

Investigators quickly identified a suspect. Police say Sergio Thomas, 39, of New Haven, was arrested on September 5 in Waterbury without incident. He has been charged with two counts of murder and is currently being held on a $3 million bond.

The case was led by Detective Joseph Galvan of the Major Crimes Unit, who developed probable cause for Thomas’s arrest through the course of the investigation.

Officials said the press conference will shed light on the investigation and charges, and offer the victims’ families an opportunity to speak.
