LINCOLN, Neb. – Sergio David Jaime-Zazueta, 45, of Mexico, has been sentenced to 11 years and 3 months in federal prison after being caught with 200 pounds of crystal meth during a traffic stop in Seward County. The Department of Justice announced his sentence for possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine.

The arrest took place on April 25, 2024, when Jaime-Zazueta was stopped by law enforcement while driving alone on Interstate 80 in Seward County. During questioning, Jaime-Zazueta’s inconsistent statements about his travel route raised suspicions. A K9 unit was brought in, which alerted officers to the presence of drugs in the vehicle.

Upon searching his car, authorities discovered approximately 200 pounds of meth hidden in a box in the cargo area and in garbage bags on the back seat. Investigators with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) learned that Jaime-Zazueta was transporting the drugs for an individual in Mexico. This was his second drug run; he had previously delivered 100 pounds of meth from Los Angeles to St. Louis.

Jaime-Zazueta will also serve a three-year term of supervised release after completing his prison sentence. The investigation was a joint effort between the DEA and the Seward County Sheriff’s Office.
