LAGOS, Nigeria — The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 30-year-old Segun Akinola, an ex-convict, who confessed to stealing his friend’s bicycle late at night with the intention of riding it to Ondo State.
Police operatives from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) apprehended Akinola around 2:00 a.m. on Friday during a patrol on the Third Mainland Bridge. Upon questioning, Akinola admitted, “I woke up past midnight and stole my friend’s bicycle. I am riding it to Ondo State.”
Following his confession, officers proceeded to Muslim Road, Banana Island, where Akinola claimed he stole the bicycle. They found the victim still asleep at a bus stop nearby, who confirmed the theft.
Earlier that morning, another RRS team arrested 25-year-old Mohammed Ibraheem on Alfred Rilwane Road in Ikoyi. Ibraheem was caught with five folded protective mesh pieces used for road medians. His accomplice escaped upon seeing the police.
Both suspects have been arraigned in court, with the stolen bicycle set to be returned to its owner after prosecution concludes.
