JENNINGS, La. (KPLC) — A second suspect, Clarence Duhon, 57, has been arrested in connection with the alleged cruelty to and theft from an elderly man in Jennings. Duhon joins Betty Fulton, 58, who was arrested earlier in the case. Both suspects now face serious charges related to their involvement in exploiting the elderly man.
The incident began on Monday, March 31, when officers responded to a reported domestic disturbance at a home on North Main Street. Upon arriving, officers discovered an elderly man who was malnourished and living in unhygienic conditions. Authorities immediately called an ambulance to take him for medical evaluation.
Investigators later uncovered that Betty Fulton had checked the man out of a nursing home against medical advice five months prior. Since that time, she is believed to have withdrawn over $40,000 from his bank account. Fulton was arrested last week for her role in the alleged abuse and financial exploitation.
Further investigation revealed that Clarence Duhon was also involved in the abuse and theft. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was taken into custody during a traffic stop on Monday.
Both Duhon and Fulton are charged with cruelty to the infirmed, exploitation of the infirmed, and theft of $25,000 or more. They are currently being held in the Jeff Davis Parish Jail with bonds set at $60,000.
