by Sophia Bennett

GWINNER, N.D. — A second suspect has been arrested in the theft of a 700-pound, century-old bell from White Stone Hill Cemetery in Gwinner.

35-year-old Derek Sims is now facing theft charges and is scheduled to appear in court in November.

The first suspect, 39-year-old Paul Vincent, pleaded not guilty to the same charge on Thursday, October 9.

Investigators say the pair stole the more than 100-year-old bronze bell in September and later sold it to a scrapyard for just $1,300, despite its estimated value of over $40,000.

Authorities continue to investigate whether the men were involved in other thefts of historical or high-value items in the region.
