Scott Smith Arrested in Stolen Trailer Case, OPP Says

West Nipissing man charged after traffic stop recovery

WEST NIPISSING, ONT. — Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested a man and recovered a stolen trailer following a traffic stop early Monday morning.

Officers from the Nipissing West Detachment stopped a vehicle towing a trailer on Dutrisac Road around 3:30 a.m. The driver attempted to flee, causing the trailer to overturn during a turn.

Police determined the trailer was stolen and arrested the driver, later identified as 36-year-old Scott Smith, of West Nipissing.

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a small amount of suspected crack cocaine.

Smith was charged with:

Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000

Theft over $5,000

Possession of a Schedule I substance

He was released and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on Dec. 4.
