METROPOLIS, Ill. — A 41-year-old Metropolis man has been arrested and charged in connection with the theft of tools valued at nearly $3,000 from a work trailer.

The Metropolis Police Department responded to a call Saturday about a burglary at a residence near 4th and Girard. Homeowners reported that a work trailer had been broken into and several tools were missing.

Investigators, along with the victims, went to question Scott A. Conley, a worker allegedly connected to the trailer. Officers found Conley sleeping inside a nearby home.

Surveillance footage reviewed by police reportedly showed Conley breaking into the trailer using a crowbar, confirming his involvement.

Conley was taken into custody and charged with the following:

Burglary

Theft

Possession of burglary tools

Criminal trespass

He was transported to the Massac County Detention Center.

Authorities recovered part of the stolen items; however, nearly $1,000 worth of tools remain missing as the investigation continues.
