ARTESIA, N.M. — A fugitive wanted on federal charges is in custody after a police chase ended with him hiding in a child’s bedroom.
Saul Peralta was initially stopped outside Artesia during a drug investigation, but fled the scene, leading officers on a high-speed chase through the city. The pursuit ended when police deployed stop sticks, flattening the tires of Peralta’s truck and forcing him to flee on foot.
Authorities tracked him to the Abo Apartments, where he was found attempting to hide in a child’s bedroom.
A search of Peralta’s vehicle uncovered high-powered firearms and a large sum of cash, according to police.
Peralta is now facing multiple state charges including fleeing law enforcement and child abuse, and is being held on a U.S. Marshals hold pending federal charges.
