Four individuals have been arrested in connection with the burglary of gold jewellery worth several lakhs from a house in Bhima Nagar, near Kooni Bazaar in Trichy.
The incident took place at the residence of S Rajasekar (29), an employee of a transport company. Rajasekar and his family had traveled to Palani in Dindigul district on May 29. Upon returning the following night, they were alarmed to find their house locked from the inside.
The family immediately alerted local police. Officers from the Palakkarai police station responded and upon inspection, discovered that the house had been burgled, with 18 sovereigns of gold jewellery missing.
A case was filed under BNS Sections 331-4 (trespass) and 305 (theft). Surveillance footage from the area played a crucial role in tracking down the suspects.
By Saturday, a team led by Inspector Basil Prem Anand arrested P Sathish (20), R Rahul (25), C Vetriselvam (20), and G Naveenthakrishnan (28) — all residents of Kooni Bazaar.
The accused were presented before a magistrate and have been remanded in judicial custody. Investigations to recover the stolen jewellery and identify any additional accomplices are ongoing.
