In a major breakthrough, the Mulund Police have arrested two individuals in connection with a daring theft in Mulund West. The stolen goods, including gold ornaments worth Rs21.6 lakh and Rs6.5 lakh in cash, were taken from the residence of businessman Tushar Jain on March 3 and 4, 2025.
The theft came to light when Jain reported the incident on March 7, leading to an investigation under the supervision of PSI Ganesh Mohite. Police questioned family members, domestic help, and analyzed over 100 CCTV footage clips from the area. This effort led to a breakthrough, with two women seen acting suspiciously in autorickshaws near the crime scene and in nearby areas like Bhandup and Kurla.
One of the suspects, Sarika Shankar Sakat, a 33-year-old woman from Kurla, was identified. Sakat has a history of thefts, with several cases against her in Ghatkopar, Mulund, Kandivali, Juhu, Thane, and Dombivli. Police believe she gained access to Jain’s home using a duplicate key. She was arrested at her residence in Kurla.
During her interrogation, Sakat confessed to selling the stolen gold to her accomplice, Dhananjay Ramji Verma, aged 48, also from Kurla. Verma was later arrested, and the police successfully recovered the stolen goods, including a 340-gram gold bar.
The investigation was carried out under the guidance of senior police officials, including Additional Commissioner Mahesh Patil, Deputy Commissioner Vijaykant Sagar, and Assistant Commissioner Sandeep More. The investigation team, led by PSI Ganesh Mohite, was also supported by officers Kiran Chavan, Shekhar Baviskar, Sunil Vinchu, Mohan Nikam, Manoj More, and Vivek Shimpi.
