NIXA, Mo. — A Christian County woman is in custody after police say she played a key role in a celebrity impersonation scam that targeted elderly victims across multiple states.
According to a social media update from the Nixa Police Department, Sarah Mills, of Nixa, was arrested on Tuesday, Dec. 2, and is facing charges including money laundering, conspiracy, and two counts of felony stealing.
Investigators allege that Mills collaborated with other online offenders between 2024 and 2025, scamming victims out of thousands of dollars. Authorities say the stolen funds were tracked across four states and ultimately converted into cryptocurrency.
The Nixa Police Criminal Investigations Division worked with several partner agencies to identify the movement of the money and gather evidence leading to Mills’ arrest.
More details will be released as formal charges are filed.
