Santosh and Asha Shrestha Arrested for Nepali Online Fraud

Youths scammed victims via Facebook and WhatsApp

KATHMANDU, Nepal — Police have arrested two youths from Kirtipur, Santosh Shrestha (22) and Asha Shrestha (19), for allegedly conducting online fraud through WhatsApp and Facebook, authorities reported on December 30.

Police said the pair created fake social media accounts and impersonated a Dutch national to deceive victims. They convinced individuals that precious goods would be sent from the Netherlands and persuaded them to transfer funds to the bank accounts of Kishor Shrestha and Santosh Shrestha.

According to authorities, the victims sent a total of Rs 4.19 million. The arrested individuals are currently in police custody, and investigations into the case are ongoing.
