Santapeta police in Nellore district arrested four individuals on Sunday night for selling ganja and seized over 6.35 kilograms of the contraband, along with cash and a vehicle.
The raid took place on Rayapu Street in Kapadipalem area of Nellore city following a tip-off. The arrested were identified as Sheikh Subhani (36), Sheikh Siraj (42), Kondra Jyothi (45), and Sheikh Meera (39).
Police recovered 6.350 kilograms of ganja, Rs 22,500 in cash, and an auto-rickshaw from the accused. Investigation revealed that the gang procured ganja from Visakhapatnam at Rs 10,000 per kilogram. They repackaged it into 10-gram sachets and sold each for Rs 300, earning up to Rs 30,000 per kilogram.
Authorities stated the accused were addicted to vices and resorted to selling ganja as an easy source of income.
Background checks showed Subhani had five prior ganja-related cases and a Preventive Detention (PD) Act record, while Siraj faced eight earlier ganja cases.
