San Jose Officer Saul Duran Arrested for Child Assault

Accused of Assaulting Two Teen Sisters Since 2008

San Jose, CA – San Jose Police Officer Saul Duran, a 22-year veteran of the force, has been arrested on child sexual assault charges involving two sisters. The alleged crimes occurred between 2008 and 2012, authorities announced Tuesday.

Duran, 55, was taken into custody on Monday, following a June 18 investigation launch when the now-adult victims came forward. At the time of the alleged assaults, the girls were 14 and 15 years old.

According to San Jose Police Chief Paul Joseph, the incidents took place while Duran served as a facilitator for The Parent Project, a county-run program meant to support families dealing with difficult adolescents. Duran allegedly used his position of trust to gain access to the sisters, interacting with them individually outside of official program hours—something explicitly forbidden by policy.

Chief Joseph said a comprehensive review of all department programs involving minors is now underway. “This is a betrayal of the community and of the badge,” Joseph said.

Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen stated that Duran had previously been fired from The Parent Project for non-criminal behavior that, in hindsight, raised red flags. Rosen confirmed that additional inquiries are being made to determine whether there are more potential victims, particularly from Duran’s time with the program.

Duran was released after posting $250,000 bail and is on administrative leave. He is expected to be arraigned on August 7.
