A San Antonio woman, Mariah Cabrera, was sentenced to 35 years in prison on Tuesday for the murder of David Rezentes. The crime occurred during a robbery attempt in which Cabrera and her co-defendants arranged a meeting with Rezentes’ friend through social media. When they arrived, Cabrera and the others attempted to rob the pair, but things escalated when Cabrera opened fire on Rezentes.
Prosecutors emphasized the defendant’s lack of regard for Rezentes’ life as they condemned the violent crime. “The defendant acted without regard for David’s life when she, along with others, made the decision to rob them,” Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales stated. The shooting left Rezentes with fatal injuries, and he later died from his wounds.
Cabrera will serve 35 years in prison for her role in the deadly robbery.
