Delhi Police have arrested two men, Samit Singh (22) of Barwani, Madhya Pradesh and Samrat Singh (30) of Vadodara, Gujarat, for allegedly burgling a house in Krishna Nagar, Shahdara, and stealing jewellery worth Rs 1.5 crore.
The burglary came to light when the homeowner returned on September 12 after visiting relatives in Vivek Vihar and discovered the house had been broken into. CCTV footage and intelligence inputs led police to the suspects.
Both men have multiple previous cases, and Samit Singh had been declared a proclaimed offender in Rajouri Garden. They reportedly moved across states to evade arrest, often traveling to Delhi by train, staying in budget hotels near stations, and targeting houses left unoccupied for days.
The duo employed motorcycles to commit crimes and flee, often abandoning them after use. Police recovered jewellery worth around Rs 25 lakh, a car purchased with stolen money, and one stolen motorcycle. The suspects also named a third associate and admitted to stealing another motorcycle from Man Sarovar Park.
DCP (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam confirmed that investigations are ongoing to trace additional accomplices and link the suspects to other burglaries in the Delhi-NCR region.
