the Ahmedabad city police have arrested Samirkhan Pathan, a resident of Juhapura, for his involvement in a series of vehicle thefts and stealing valuables from cars by breaking windows. Pathan, who was allegedly driven to theft to support his two wives and six children, had a criminal history, with previous arrests for bootlegging and anti-social activities.
The police recovered goods worth a total of Rs 16.14 lakh from Pathan’s possession, including 12 laptops, four expensive wristwatches, 32 Amazon parcels, 33 fake vehicle registration number plates, two Eco vans stolen from Mehsana, and two scooters.
Pathan’s arrest followed a theft case involving 54 Amazon parcels that were stolen from an Eco car near Rajshree Tower in Jodhpur village. Police investigated the case, analyzed CCTV footage, and identified Pathan as the suspect. The investigation revealed that Pathan had stolen the Eco vans from Mehsana and used stolen number plates from Eco cars to commit his crimes.
The thief is believed to have carried out thefts in several areas, including Anandnagar, Sarkhej, Shaherkotda, Kagdapith, and Maninagar. Pathan reportedly executed at least 16 thefts recently, selling the stolen Amazon parcels—which contained various goods like bags, music systems, and kitchen items—to locals at discounted prices.
Pathan, who has been arrested eight times and previously detained under the Prevention of Anti-Social Activities (PASA) Act, is now facing further charges related to his most recent criminal activities.
