The Pune City Police have arrested Sameer Ganesh Kad (32), the man allegedly responsible for a fatal hit-and-run that took the life of a 49-year-old morning walker on Tuesday.
The incident involved a sports utility vehicle (SUV) that struck the victim and fled the scene, triggering a city-wide manhunt. Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajkumar Shinde confirmed that the suspect was arrested early Wednesday from Dardegaon in Sortapwadi, located in Haveli taluka of Pune district.
Kad, a resident of Gangotri Complex in Undri, is now in custody and will face charges related to culpable homicide and negligent driving, among other sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Motor Vehicles Act.
Police have not yet disclosed whether Kad confessed or provided an explanation for fleeing the scene. The investigation remains ongoing, with officers reviewing CCTV footage and witness statements to build a complete timeline of the incident.
The victim’s identity has not been publicly released pending family notification. The tragic incident has raised fresh concerns about pedestrian safety and reckless driving in urban areas like Pune.
