DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. — A standoff in the 400 block of Fried Drive escalated when Samantha Leigh Atherholt fired multiple shots at police, according to authorities. On Friday, Dec. 27, Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) confirmed that Atherholt’s actions led to a response from law enforcement, during which a PSP member returned fire, striking Atherholt.

The standoff began on Dec. 26, 2024, when officers responded to a report of Atherholt’s boyfriend, Michael S. Danilshenko, allegedly harassing neighbors. Upon their arrival, Atherholt warned officers she would fire a “warning shot” and proceeded to discharge her weapon.

The Pennsylvania State Police Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) was called in after the initial shot, as Atherholt fired multiple rounds at an armored vehicle occupied by officers. In response, a SERT member fired a shot, striking Atherholt. She was taken to Penn State Health Holy Spirit Medical Center for treatment.

Court documents obtained by Daily Voice revealed that Atherholt’s bail has been revoked, as she is deemed a danger to the community. She will be committed to Dauphin County Prison without bail after her medical care.

Additionally, Atherholt faces prior charges from an October 16, 2024, incident involving assault of a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest. If she survives her injuries, she will face further charges, including assault of a law enforcement officer, which carries a mandatory 20-year sentence.

The court has instructed the hospital to notify the Pennsylvania State Police of any changes in Atherholt’s medical condition or transfer. No further details about her condition are available at this time.
