Western Region, Ghana — The Western Central Regional Police Command has ramped up its operations against criminal activity, recording three major arrests in April 2025 related to vehicle theft, armed gold robbery, and illegal mining.

In Tarkwa, Salifu Gariba was arrested for the theft of a Toyota Land Cruiser (PC), registration number GS 1845-23, belonging to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The vehicle was stolen from the residence of an EPA employee in Budo City on April 15. Gariba was intercepted the following day by the Northern Regional Police at Kukobila, along the Tamale–Bolgatanga highway. The vehicle was recovered, and Gariba remains in custody as investigations continue.

In a separate case, three suspects were apprehended in connection with a gold robbery at Wassa Afransie. Felix Adjei (alias Africa or Nana Adjei), Emmanuel Kelvin (a Nigerian national), and Kofi Appiah (alias Kesse) allegedly robbed employees of Mas Palasco Gold Buying Limited of 14 pounds of gold and other valuables valued at GHS 199,000.

The robbery occurred on April 4, when the suspects ambushed the company’s vehicle while it was returning from Wassa Ayiem. A getaway vehicle, an unregistered Toyota Corolla, was later abandoned. Police retrieved firearms, ammunition, and GHS 65,000 believed to be robbery proceeds. All three suspects are assisting with investigations.

On April 23, six individuals—Justice Tetteh, Michael Anche, Bismark Gyimah, Ramzy Amoah, Michael Attivor, and Emmanuel Andoh—were arrested at Bepoakyi near Dompim for engaging in illegal mining (galamsey). Authorities seized five excavators used in the operation, which are now being held at the Dompim Police Station, pending transfer to the Tarkwa Nsuaem District Assembly.

The Western Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to public safety and environmental protection. Investigations into all three incidents remain active as authorities work to dismantle criminal networks in the region.
