A Salem man, Donald L. Watkins, 38, has been arrested on charges of welfare fraud after it was discovered he allegedly stole nearly $2,000. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office arrested Watkins after an investigation led by the Washington County Department of Social Services.
Watkins is accused of failing to report income he was receiving, which led to an overpayment of $1,977 between April 1, 2023, and October 30, 2023. As a result, he was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, a class E felony.
An arrest warrant for Watkins was issued out of the Town of Fort Edward Court, and he was arraigned in Centralized Arraignment Court. Watkins is set to appear in the Town of Fort Edward Court at a later date to answer for the charges.
