In a major anti-narcotics operation, Mumbai Police seized mephedrone worth Rs8.15 crore from a cement godown in the city and arrested two persons—Sadik Salim Sheikh (28) of Bandra, and Siraj Panjwani (57) of Mira Road—under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, as reported by PTI.
The operation began with the arrest of Sadik Sheikh in the Kajupada area of Sakinaka, where police recovered mephedrone worth Rs10 lakh. During interrogation, Sheikh revealed that he had sourced the drugs from Siraj Panjwani, who was then arrested from Mira Road.
The accused further disclosed that the synthetic drug was manufactured at a cement godown by one Kaluram Chowdhary. Acting on this information, the police raided the godown and recovered 4.5 kg of mephedrone.
However, Kaluram Chowdhary managed to flee the scene and is currently absconding. Authorities suspect he may be linked to a larger drug syndicate, and further arrests are likely as the investigation deepens.
Police are continuing their search for Chowdhary and are working to trace the distribution network possibly involving major narcotics operators.
